"Action appliance repaired my wall-mounted oven. I was very impressed with them from my first phone call. One of the few repair companies that promptly return calls, answer all questions, and arrive on time. The office staff is courteous and professional. While Rich, the technician, was at my home he also repaired a water-line to my fridge, and took time to check out my dishwasher and pronounced it healthy! |

"The phone person and service man were very polite and efficient. Service was as quick as could be reasonably expected. I would have given 5 stars but thought Action was pricey. Having said that, I had already called our usual local service place twice in 3 days, left 2 messages, and never got a return call. That is why I contacted service magic. Maybe Action does deserve 5 stars." |

The Maytag Appliance History
The Maytag Company was founded in 1893 by Fred Maytag, George Parsons, and Maytag’s two brothers-in-law. They produced farm implements. The first washing machine was produced in 1907. It had a wooden tub and a hand crank. By 1911 Fred Maytag was sole owner of the Maytag Company decided to concentrate on manufacturing washing machines.
L.B. Maytag, Fred's son, took over as CEO from 1920-1926. During his time as head of the company, the first agitator was invented and a million washers were sold by 1927. Maytag's other son, Elmer Henry Maytag, ran the company until his death in 1940. During WWII, Maytag helped the war effort by producing aircraft parts.
Grandson Fred Maytag II became president in 1949. The first clothes dryer was manufactured in 1953.
Dishwashers were added in 1966 and disposals in 1971. The Maytag Company acquired Hardwick, Admiral, Magic Chef, Norge and Jenn-air, and Hover vacuum cleaners in the 1980s. This added cooking appliances, microwaves, and refrigeration. The first Maytag Neptune front loader washing machine was introduced in 1987 for commercial use and then in 1997 to home use. It was a great success surpassing all of the competition. Amana Appliance Company was purchased in 2001.
The Maytag Company had several recalls and class-action lawsuits along and management changes (each change the way Maytag did business), that led to a loss of focus and loss of revenues. They finally were acquired by the Ripplewood Holdings LLC of New York for 1.1 Billion Dollars in 2005.
In March of 2006, Maytag stockholders agreed to sell Maytag to Whirlpool, ending Maytag's 112-year history as an independent company. Whirlpool is closing all of the original Maytag manufacturing plants including the original Headquarters in Newton Iowa. Maytag built appliances are being replacing with Whirlpool designed machines.
